Hardy Brothers partnered with DeltaPrint3D to redefine its sophisticated retail space, designing organic columns inspired by the rock formations of the Australian deserts. Leveraging Caracol’s LFAM robotic technology, the team recreated intricate textures that bring depth and a natural essence to the environment, blending craftsmanship, innovation, and material storytelling.
Founded in 1853, Hardy Brothers is one of Australia’s most prestigious fine jewelry houses, synonymous with heritage, refinement, and timeless craftsmanship. Today, the brand continues to innovate while honoring its legacy, integrating new technologies to enhance the customer experience across its boutiques.

Project development
As part of a key redesign project for one of its flagship stores, Hardy Brothers envisioned a retail environment where every architectural detail could serve as a narrative element. A central feature of this vision involved reinterpreting the store’s structural columns to resemble natural rock formations in Australia – evoking a tactile connection to the earth and organic forms.
To bring this idea to life, Hardy Brothers turned to DeltaPrint, an Australian expert in large-format additive manufacturing and local manufacturing partner of Caracol, which adopted Heron AM to bring to life the project. The process began with a high-resolution 3D scan of real rocks, capturing the intricate textures and shapes found in nature. These digital models became the foundation for creating sculptural panels that would wrap around the store’s columns.
After the scan and the CAD design, the columns were set up for slicing with robotic LFAM and manufactured with Heron AM – Caracol’s robotic advanced manufacturing platform – also keeping in mind that the designs had to be thought for ease of production, transport, and assembly.
Technical details:
- System: Heron – HV extruder
- Material: PLA
- Nozzle Size: 5 mm
- Print Time: 12 hours for the largest panel
- Dimensions: 700 x 470 x 1700 mm
- Weight: 19 kg per panel
- Post-Processing: Gluing, plastering, and on-site painting

The benefits of advanced manufacturing to produce organic design
This project highlights how robotic additive manufacturing can unlock new design languages for luxury spaces. By using Caracol’s robotic platform Heron AM, DeltaPrint was able to fabricate highly customized, geometrically rich elements that would be prohibitively complex and time-consuming with traditional methods.
The use of PLA in pellet form, a bio-based and biodegradable material, also ensured a more sustainable production process, in line with the increasing environmental consciousness within the luxury sector. The printed panels preserved all the fine surface detail of the original rock scans, creating a tactile and visual experience that resonates with natural authenticity while standing out as a unique design feature.

A new vision for luxury retail spaces
This collaboration between Hardy Brothers, DeltaPrint, and Caracol AM exemplifies how cutting-edge 3D printing technologies can elevate interior architecture in the retail world. It’s a powerful example of how brands can use innovative manufacturing to tell stories through material, form, and space, redefining how luxury is experienced.
The column claddings are more than decorative elements, they become sculptural gestures that reinforce brand identity and reflect the values of artistry, innovation, and attention to detail.
