Duondolo: when robotic LFAM sets creativity freedom image

Presented at Milan Design Week 2026, Duondolo is a large-scale rocking piece by designer Valentina Bottani — a Politecnico di Milano graduate and collaborator of Osmotica Design. The project reinterprets the swing as a relational object: an invitation to rediscover balance, play, and human connection. Design beyond manufacturing constraints

Bottani’s vision for Duondolo was inherently organic — a continuous sculptural form that moves like a natural gesture. Traditional manufacturing would have imposed hard limits: tooling costs, structural compromises, assembly joints. Caracol’s Heron AM removed those barriers entirely, allowing geometry to be treated as a design variable rather than a production problem.

Curvature, wall thickness, and mass could be shaped freely, without retooling or lead-time penalties. Sustainability and custom production at scale

Duondolo was 3D printed in rPETG + 30% glass fibre — a recycled-content engineering polymer that meets the structural demands of a 94 kg piece while reducing reliance on virgin materials.

Beyond sustainability, the project demonstrates the economic viability of small-batch and custom production: no molds, no overproduction, a single unique object manufactured to exact specification in 18 hours.
